SarmaTY/JA is a soundrama based on the poem by Belarusian writer Maryja Martysievič. Blending folk and hip-hop influences, the performance unfolds as a dark, rhythmic, and sensual journey through love, exile, and the search for belonging. At its centre is a young woman who has moved to Sarmatia — a legendary, semi-mythical version of Belarus, at once foreign and deeply familiar. From this unstable borderland, she writes letters to a “sister”, trying to describe a place whose language, customs, landscape, and emotional codes she is still learning to understand.

Gradually, Sarmatia reveals itself not only as a territory, but as a symbolic world shaped by memory, history, and desire. Rooted in the old Sarmatian myth and the layered legacy of Eastern Europe, it becomes a poetic space where private experience and collective identity intersect. The heroine moves through it as both insider and outsider, suspended between attraction and estrangement, intimacy and distance. Her voice carries longing, irony, and sharp observation, revealing a land marked by resilience, beauty, and contradiction.

Suspended between rave and theatre, SarmaTY/JA combines live music, movement, visuals, and spoken word into an immersive stage language. Structured in 12 parts, the work unfolds as both a narrative journey and a sequence of autonomous musical tracks, creating a powerful portrait of displacement, borderland identity, and the emotional cost of trying to belong.
